Steer every Drakehound's Step like part of the damage combo, not just movement: if the dash carries you past the target you break the Q2/E/empowered-auto chain, and buffered passive can still carry through some roots and fears while hard interrupts stop it .
Pre-6, Ambessa wants the kind of fight where sticking power matters after first contact, so scuttle, invade, and countergank scraps are usually better than flat lane ganks, and recent data backs that by showing early enemy-jungler fights matter more for her than early lane-kill ganks .
Use R by sweeping a line through the farthest valuable target you can actually stay chained to, then keep the game on that chain-fight rhythm when ahead because her best results come before fights settle into clean formations .
If the only line lands you on someone you cannot keep chained to, skip it. The common bad Ambessa ult is the one that technically reaches a target but leaves you on a tank, under peel, or at an angle where your next dash carries past the fight instead of through it. Wait for one of three things: a teammate pins the target, the enemy retreats in a straight line, or a carry burns the first escape and becomes the farthest clean line. In those spots, your ult is not just access, it is the start of the whole kill chain.
Entering an attack or movement command while casting an ability will cause Ambessa to dash a short distance once the ability is cast, granting her next attack bonus range, damage, and attack speed, and refunding energy.
Ambessa sweeps her twin drakehounds in a semicircle in front of her, dealing bonus damage to enemies hit by the blades. Striking an enemy will transform the next cast of this ability for a short period of time, causing her to slam her twin drakehounds down in a line in front of her, dealing bonus damage to the first enemy hit.
Ambessa gains a shield, briefly braces herself, and then slams the ground to damage nearby enemies. If she blocked any non-minion damage while bracing herself, this ability will deal increased damage.
Ambessa whips her twin drakehounds around herself, damaging and slowing nearby enemies. Initiating Drakehound's Step from this ability causes her to strike a second time at the end of its dash.
Ambessa blinks to the farthest enemy champion in a line of her choosing and suppresses them upon her arrival. She then slams the enemy into the ground where they take damage and are stunned.
