Play battery first, victim second: use the nearest melee body to stack Determination—W gives two stack hits, and clipping multiple champions with W or R is often how Zaahen unlocks the real target instead of coinflipping a straight carry dive.
Zaahen’s clear is a hand check, not autopilot: auto before Q, hit the rim of E on camps, and do not burn health or time proving you can full clear, because delayed first-item timings punish him hard in the recent window.
He is strongest in dirty pileups, not pride duels—fights with two or three bodies close together give him time to charge, heal, and keep going, which is why his games stay more recoverable than expected when the map keeps producing real skirmishes instead of clean 1v1s.
Start with the body that gives you the fastest, safest Determination, not the body you most want dead. If their carry is already exposed, go there. If not, hit the nearest melee champion who lets your W and follow-up threaten a second target instead of forcing a long isolated chase. In practice that usually means charging through the frontliner or diver who walked in too far, then turning once your bar is full, their peel is spent, or your R can catch more than one person in the same sequence. The mistake is tunneling on the carry before you have earned the version of Zaahen that can actually stay on them.
Zaahen's attacks and abilities against enemy champions grant him stacks of Determination, gaining bonus Attack Damage per stack. When filled with Determination, Zaahen gains increased Attack Damage and can revive.
Zaahen slashes twice on his next attack, dealing bonus damage and healing himself. Zaahen can recast this ability to have his next attack deal bonus damage and knock up his target.
Zaahen stabs in a direction, damaging enemies hit, then pulls them toward him.
Zaahen dashes to a location and slices around himself.
Zaahen rises then stabs downward, damaging enemies and healing for a portion of the damage dealt.
